Start learning Turkish in Istanbul**
Turkish
is a member of the Turkic branch of the Altaic
family of languages.
Nearly 150 million people spanning from
Western China to Eastern Romania speak the Turkic
languages. Modern Ottoman Turkish spoken by nearly
70 million people is the official language of Turkey.
It has heavy borrowings from Persian and Arabic
languages, as well as some European influences.
However, in recent history Turkish has been purging
from itself the Arabic and Persian words, replacing
them with truer Turkish words, or with western
counterparts.
In
1928, the Turkish government replaced the Turkish
Arabic alphabet with a Turkish Latin alphabet. This
action has helped aligned and continues to push
Turkey towards the west. With such a rich language,
culture, and people (over 150 million people
speaking some form of it), Turkish certainly is an
important language to learn.

these social activities, we ensure that the students
become acquainted with Istanbul, make new friends and
practise their knowledge of the Turkish language
outside the classroom.
Our
students have the opportunity to meet each other
during our introduction parties, trips and farewell
evenings. In summer, these parties take place on a
boat tour of the Bosphorus.. We hold sightseeing tours
throughout every course period during the year. These
tours include many famous places, such as Anadolu
Kavagi, Eyüp Mosque, Kariye Museum and Camlica Hill
on both European and Asian sides of Istanbul. We
recommend all students should see these places. The
transport fees are paid by us. In the months of April
and May, we have picnics in Belgrad Forest. In the
months of July and August ( and also in June and
September, weather permitting) we go swimming to Sile,
Kilyos, Riva, Agva, which are all on the boundary of
Istanbul, and also the Islands of the Marmara Sea. Our
students have many opportunities to become involved in
our sporting activities which take place near our
