Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Enhancement Surgery?

If you complain about any of the following, you might be an ideal candidate for cosmetic breast enhancement surgery:
1. If you feel that your breast are too small,
2. If clothing that fits well in the hips is loose in your chest,
3. If you have difficulty wearing bikinis or sportswear,
4. If your breasts have lost their fullness or shrunk after giving birth,
5. If weight lose has caused your breasts to change shape or grow smaller,
6. If one of your breasts is noticeably smaller than the other.
Making an Informed Decision
Your breasts will be examined prior to the plastic surgery procedure and photographs may be taken. The size and shape of your breasts, as well as your skin type and the location of your nipples will be examined. If there is any sagging in your breasts, we may recommend that a breast lift be performed in addition to a breast implant. You will be asked about your general health, drug allergies and past treatment and operations, e.g. breast biopsy.
There is no scientific evidence which indicates that breast implants increase the risk of cancer. However, special techniques may be required when a mammogram is performed. Breast implants do not affect one's ability to have a normal pregnancy or ability to nurse. Nor do breast implants pose a problem for breast examinations you conduct yourself.

The implant is placed behind the breast tissue through an incision made around the nipple. It may also be inserted through an incision made in the crease under the breast or in the armpit. The chamber where the implant will be placed can be prepared either in front of or behind the pectoral muscle. After surgery a small dressing will be applied and a bra will be worn. It is possible to return home the same day. You will be able to return to work in two or three days and participate in all type of sporting events in three weeks.

Post-Surgery
Aspirin must not be taken prior to and for 3 weeks following the surgery due to increased risk of hemorrhaging.
What Type of Implant Should Be Used?
Implants vary depending on their contents, shape and surface properties. Implants filled with saline or silicone gel are frequently used. They may be either round or contoured. The surface of breast implants may be either smooth or textured. There are advantages and disadvantages to each of these different characteristics. Your plastic surgeon will consider your anatomic structure and existing breast shape as well as your own personal desires when choosing the implant most appropriate for you.

Your choice of a plastic surgeon is very important. Incidence of hemorrhaging, infection, delayed healing and asymmetry are very rare when breast enhancement surgery is performed in a well-equipped modern hospital by an experienced plastic surgeon. The body surrounds the breast implant with a capsule of tissue. If this capsule hardens or thickens it may squeeze the implant causing it to move and, though rare, it is sometimes necessary to reposition the implant with a second surgery.
